An irony of installing the ribbon cable, is your view is blocked as you try to line up the pin headers.  It is easy to off-set the row.  Not that this (usually) causes damage, but it doesn't work either.  

26-pin shrouded box header is designed for secure and reliable board-to-wire connections. It is a standard male IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector) socket commonly used in a variety of electronic applications, including JTAG and ISP interfaces. The shrouded design provides protection for the pins and ensures proper alignment when mating with a female ribbon cable connector
